FROM THE BOARD…
The theme for the 2018 Roundup is “Embrace Change” and this year, our theme has had significant meaning.
We’ve kept you up to date with the difficulties the Deauville, our host hotel, has had these last few months. The hotel was closed starting sometime in late July, and remains closed today. The Deauville promised us they’d be open prior to March but kept pushing out the opening date until it became clear to us that our event was in jeopardy. The Co-chairs met with our contacts in November, and the result of that meeting was that a concrete decision would be provided to the Florida Roundup on December 15th. On Friday, they let us know that they were are unable to fulfill their obligations, effectively canceling our event at the Deauville.
Immediately following our meeting in November, we started a search for an alternative hotel and we found only one option. Generally, events like FRU are contracted a year or more in advance, and we were lucky to find any option at all. The general membership was presented with this alternative yesterday, Sunday 17, 2017 and they strongly expressed the idea that moving forward was far better overall than cancelling the Roundup in 2018.
Our host hotel for the 2018 Roundup is tentatively set to be the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Miami Airport & Convention Center located at 11 NW 72nd Ave, Miami, FL 33126. We are still negotiating the contract but feel confident and are moving forward. You will need to cancel your reservation with the Deauville. Once we have finalized the contract – we’ll provide you with the details and the link necessary to book your room at the new hotel.
No, this location is not on the beach. We are indeed “Embracing Change” and many of us feel the Roundup is more about sharing recovery, meeting old friends and making new ones, growing, learning and most importantly, celebrating our recovery with each other. Your 2018 committees and board are committed to making this Roundup a great experience for all that come.
