Gays and Lesbians in Alcoholics Anonymous
pronounced gay・la or gah・luh

Statement of Inclusion

GaL-AA (Gays and Lesbians in AA) was established to serve and have the involvement of lesbians, gay men, and others in Alcoholics Anonymous, regardless of how they choose to identify themselves. In selecting the name, careful consideration was given to a variety of combinations. While the name only directly reflects gays and lesbians, we embrace all LGBT+ members of the AA fellowship.

2017 was BIG for everyone who attended GSM

What made the first GSM conference so unique?  Was it the city, the meetings and workshops, the speakers, the social events, well yes, but we feel it was our participants that made Pride Weekend one to remember.

Thanks to the power of social media and word of mouth, over 300 people from 9 countries and 37 states came to share in the GSM experience. They came and brought their collective energy, love and strength.

In 2018 we invite you.  We invite you to bring your friends.  We invite you to

     FIND YOUR TRIBE

This is still a new and unique conference. It’s a little different from the traditional roundup you may be used to. But fear not…

Keep the BEST, Leave the Rest

We know our participants loved 2017. If last year is an indicator of what we can accomplish together, we believe we can do more for the recovery community. Based on their feedback, we moved to a new hotel near Times Square! We are excited to announce the new host hotel…Moxy Times Square! This newly constructed property in the heart of the city is convenient to all GSM venues.

The 2018 conference will be a special weekend of discovery in which all of our brothers are welcomed to participate. Your journey to New York won’t leave you spending every moment on hotel property. Each day of the conference, you will get to experience the best neighborhoods of the city.

A Program Beyond Compare

The committee chairs are working hard to prepare, plan, and curate another beautiful weekend.  Your GSM experience includes ALL conference events and activities such as the dance cruise on the river – complete with fireworks, the roof top social, special entertainment, an opportunity to march in the Pride Parade and most importantly — awe inspiring meetings and innovative, energizing, motivating workshops. Our goal is for you to leave New York having had more fun, having found new tribe members and having created a stronger foundation for your recovery. We want you to connect with other sober men and develop the kind of relationships that will last a lifetime.

Explore Times Square & More

We’ve taken extra care to find new restaurants that are nearby, affordable, and convenient to all of our activities, venues and hotel. The many dining options at the host hotel are wonderful, however, we hope you go out into the streets for a true taste of what New York has to offer. Last year, many of our participants found fun exploring the neighborhood for fellowship eats. We encourage you to have some fun – take some selfies and enjoy yourselves. Have an adventure in sobriety!

Registration & Booking are FAST, EASY & AFFORDABLE!

Our team has worked tirelessly to bring together a seamless registration process combined with hotel booking. The Moxy is an amazing hotel with amenities and prices that are accessible for just about anyone.  GSM has arranged a special price for participants and no deposit is required to book your room. You will LOVE The Moxy! (See more about the hotel below)

Life will take on new meaning. To watch people recover, to see them help others, to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host of friends. This is an experience you must not miss. We know you will not want to miss it.”

MISSION: Gay & Sober is an LGBTQ nonprofit organization*. Our mission is simple – to provide a safe, fun, and enriching experience to the sober community. Our primary purpose is to encourage unity and enhance one’s sobriety.

VISION: In the spirit of unity we come together to support and love one another and to show others – especially beginners – that it is indeed possible to be happy, joyous, & free while being sober.

We have successfully launched a special men’s conference in New York City devoted to celebrating recovery from Alcoholism & drug addiction. For four special days in June, hundreds of fellows are brought together for a weekend of innovative health & wellness workshops, big speaker meetings, spiritual growth, memorable dance parties, and top entertainment. Our participants represent multiple 12 step programs and come to our conference from all corners of the world. For those of you familiar with the experience of Hot N Dry or of a YPAA event, you’re going to love what we offer!

SPIRIT: We are doing this in the spirit of brotherhood, friendliness, fellowship, and adventure!

“To watch people recover, to see them help others, to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host of friends – this is an experience you must not miss. We know you will not want to miss it.”

                                                                                                        – pg. 89, Basic Text

ORIGINS: Gay & Sober Men, The Conference is an extension of a private group on Facebook called Gay & Sober Men. What started as a small group of sober guys in the summer of 2009 has mushroomed into what is now the largest group of it’s kind on social media. Gay & Sober does hold regular meetings of AA, and is a part of the fellowship – however we welcome and embrace members and friends from all fellowships.** In June of 2014, the Facebook group voted almost unanimously to meet face to face at it’s very first conference. Where and when was the next big question. Destination cities like Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York immediately came to mind. In January of 2016, the group voted and announced that it would hold the conference in New York City and to coincide with Pride Weekend. Currently we are blessed to have over 100 sober volunteers from 8 countries.  We invite you to help us so we can help others find their TRIBE! To get involved, please visit the Planning page.
